and in English…

My name is Sara Parkening. I got married October 18, 2008 so many 8th graders this year know me as Mme. Tuckerman.

This summer my husband and I went on a long road trip to Niagara Falls, ON, Francophone (French speaking) Canada (Montreal and Quebec City), Maine (Acadia National Park) and we spend the 4th of July in Boston. A wonderful vacation and valuable learning experience.

Less than a week upon our return from vacation, we bought a Golden Retriever puppy. His name is Tuck. He has been keeping us very busy.

As for my education, my Pound students love to hear that I once too was a Pound student. After my 7th grade year, I attended Scott Middle School. I went to high school at Lincoln Southeast. GO KNIGHTS! During my junior year of high school, I participated in the LPS Know-your-neighbor study tour to France which furthered my interest in French and French Culture.

I went to UNL where I received my Bachelors of Arts in French and Bachelors of Science in Foreign Language Education. During my undergraduate years I studied abroad in Besancon, France for 7 months. After graduation, I was admitted into the French Literature Masters Program at UNL. As part of this program, I was selected to return to Besancon, France to teach English at the University of Franche-Comte for a year. Upon my return, I began my Masters full time in French Literature and taught French at UNL. I accepted my first teaching assignment at Pound Middle School last year (2008) and I am continuing my Masters part time. 3 classes remaining!

During my free time I enjoy cooking, entertaining friends and family, teaching aerobics classes, reading for pleasure (and not for my French Literature masters), gardening, jogging, and going on walks with my husband and Tuck.
