Jamestown’s Failure

1. Sign in to Google Docs.

2. Click “Create”- Document

3. Title it “Jamestown’s Failure” and then use your FULL name, so it looks like this:

4. Then click the blue “Share” button in the upper right-hand corner.  In the “Add People” section at the bottom, add:

  • pomeara@lps.org
  • rdostal@NebrWesleyan.edu

and leave the the permission on “Can Edit.”

5. Click “Share and Save”

6. Access Spicynodes.

7. Create an account and make a note of your user name and password directly on your Google Doc.

8. Click on home at the top of the Spicynode page.

9. Use the Quick Link on the right side, “Create New Node Map.”

10. Title Your Node Map: Jamestown’s Failure- Your Name

11. You don’t need to write a description.

12. Click “Create Node Map.”

13. Click “Edit Content.”

14. This is where you will build your Node Map:

  • Put the theory you believe to be most plausible at the very top.
  • Under the heading of your theory, put your three facts (taken from yesterday’s fact sheet).
  • Under each fact, click the “+” symbol on the right.  This attaches a new node.
  • Each fact must have two to three nodes with supporting details and sourcing (where the information came from).
  • CLICK SAVE!
  • Click “Preview,” then copy and paste the URL into your Google Doc.

15.  In Google Docs, you will begin to write your response to the historical inquiry, “Why did Jamestown fail?”  You will use the information you included in your Spicynode and your own insights to help develop your argument supporting your theory.
