7A SS FAQs

The seventh grade curriculum will cover the story of humankind from approximately 600 CE – 1450 CE. This curriculum begins chronologically where the new 6th grade curriculum ends. First semester focuses on the landmass of “Afroeurasia” and how religion, trade, empires, and conflicts impacted the continents of Africa, Europe, and Asia. Emphasis is placed on connections between societies. Second semester will bring the Americas into the picture, tentatively ending with a study of the Columbian Exchange in a context.

Each standard has a “big picture” questions with four to five sub-questions called “threads.” Students should be able to answer the standard question through investigation of thread questions. Each thread has its own suggested lesson procedures with accompanying materials to effectively implement the lesson. Each lesson incorporates “habits of mind” by asking students to close read primary and secondary sources.
