High School Registration

High School Counselors will be at Mickle on Feb, 22nd to help 8th grade students register for 9th grade classes. Many classes are already pre-selected since they are courses all 9th graders take. 8th Grade teachers help make recommendations for math, science, english, and social studies. Students will learn more about the school they are going to and also select a few elective courses. Students can ask counselors questions about high school.

High School Choice Forms Are Due Jan 31st

8th Graders, If you plan on attending a high school outside of your area, you will need to complete a High School Choice Form for the 2017-2018 school year.

High School registration at Mickle is Wednesday, February 22nd.  Before registration, the 8th grade counselor will be working in Science classes to discuss what to expect in high school.   Click here to view the 9th Grade Counts Power Point that will be shared in 8th grade classes.

7th Grade to TCA

On Tuesday Nov. 22nd the Challenger Team of 7th graders traveled to The Career Academy to learn about the vision and purpose of this focus program.  The students learned about the different career paths available at the TCA and how they could apply to the program and participate as juniors and seniors.  Ruth Lohmeyer, counselor at TCA, lead the program which included a slide show presentation of the TCA and a full tour of the facility at 84th and O St.  The Pathfinder Team of 7th graders will travel to the TCA in late April.

MASA Youth Latino Leadership Conference 2016

M.A.S.A or the Mexican American Student Association of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln held its Youth Leadership Conference on October 28th from 9AM-3PM in the Nebraska East Union on UNL’s East Campus.  Mickle had several students attend along with Mr. Neil Jay from the Counseling Center.  The theme of this year’s conference was “Alza Tu Voz” (Raise Your Voice) Lifting Up Activists and Leaders.  There were workshops and student activities focused on how students can lend their voice and energy to raising awareness for causes important to themselves and those around them.  The day also included several speakers, break-out discussion groups, and several activism activities.

Mickle Wellness Fair

The Mickle Wellness Fair was a huge success! At the counseling center booth students tested their knowledge of nutrition to earn chances at Putt-Putt for nutritional snacks and some Rocket gear!  Thank you to all who stopped and participated in our Pineapple Putt-Putt challenge!

2016-2017 Important 8th Grade Information Nights

“General High School Information Night” for 8th Graders

Monday, October 3rd – Southwest High School auditorium 6:00-7:00 p.m.

OR

Tuesday, October 11th – Lincoln High School auditorium 6:00-7:00 p.m.

  • Shared information will revolve around the LPS High School Focus Programs, LPS International Baccalaureate Program, JROTC, & The Career Academy
  • These duplicate sessions will present information about the opportunities these LPS programs provide for high school students looking for a different kind of high school experience.
  • Both sessions are open to the families of ALL students, no matter which high school you plan to attend.
  • Speakers will give information about: the process of selecting a high school, LPS Focus Programs (Science, Arts & Humanities, and Bryan), the International Baccalaureate Program at Lincoln High, Air Force Junior ROTC program at Northeast, The Career Academy, Learn to Dream Scholarship Program, and Education Quest.
  • If you have any questions about these special programs or transitioning to high school in general, you are encouraged to call the Counseling Center at your planned high school.

Focus Program Open Houses

  • Arts and Humanities: Thursday, November 3, 6:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. at Arts.
  • Zoo School: Monday, November 7. They will have two sessions from 6:00 p.m.-6:45 p.m., OR 7:00 p.m.-7:45 p.m. at the Zoo.
  • IB Academy Day which is geared towards 6-8 middle school students on Saturday November 5th from 8-11:30 at Lincoln High School
