*On Monday, Mrs. Hammond’s Edu-pup, Libby, will be joining us at Mickle. Libby is a golden retriever. Please stop by 115 and say “Hi.” We are so excited to have her at Mickle.

*PLC Day is this Tuesday, September 26th. Students will be released at 1:38p and should be off campus no later than 1:55p. Just a reminder…. There are no free clubs or intramurals offered on PLC days.

*Helping with the delivery of the fundraiser products is a big job and the Mickle PTSO could use your help. If you are available to help on delivery day, October 24th, please contact Carie Bruss at (cariebruss@gmail.com​)

*You and your student are invited to attend an informational presentation about preparing for high school. The first session will be offered on Monday, October 2, and it will be repeated on Tuesday, October 10, so that you will be able to choose the evening that works best for you. Speakers will give information about: the process of selecting a high school, LPS Focus Programs (Science, Arts & Humanities, and Bryan), the International Baccalaureate Program at Lincoln High, The Career Academy, Air Force Junior ROTC program at Northeast, Learn to Dream Scholarship Program, and EducationQuest.

Monday, October 2nd – Southwest High School auditorium 6:00-7:00 p.m.
OR
Tuesday, October 10th – Lincoln High School auditorium 7:00-8:00 p.m.

Both sessions are open to the families of ALL students, no matter which high school your student plans to attend. If you have any questions about these special programs or transitioning to high school in general, you are encouraged to call the Counseling Center at your planned high school.

*Education Talent Search from UNL, serves eligible young people who are low-income, first-generation students in grades 6th through 12th. In addition to counseling, participants receive information about college admissions requirements, scholarships, and various student financial aid programs. If you wish to meet and talk with one of the Education Specialist they will be at Mickle on Tuesdays and Wednesday, in room #106 after school until 4:00pm.

Quarter 1 P/T Conferences will be held Today, September 25th, 3:45-6:45p, in the gyms. We invite you to come see how the beginning of the school year is going for your student(s). We look forward to seeing you!

Parents and students, we will be taking donations and selling candy at parent/teacher conferences on Monday night to help raise money for the yearbooks. Please consider making a donation if you are able. We also need some extra help supervising and selling the candy if you are able to donate time that night. Students and parents can help. Any amount of time would help. Let Mrs. Searls know if you think you can help us out. (tgross@lps.org) – Thanks

Picture Retakes will be next Thursday, September 28. There is a sign-up sheet in the office if your student was absent or you prefer another picture be taken. Order forms are available in the office as well.

SCIP is partnering with Lincoln Public Schools, Bryan Independence Center and the Lancaster Prevention Coalition to put on a series of valuable presentations about how to support the health and well-being of our community’s youth. These events are open to parents, students, school professionals and community members.

Carrie Gottschalk has spent over 20 years in the fields of education and mental and behavioral health working with children, adolescents and families. Her presentation will help raise awareness and offer opportunities for meaningful discussion surrounding the mental health of children and adolescence. Ms. Gottschalk will be sharing information about social emotional development and its role in mental and behavioral health, de-stigmatizing diagnosis and healthy steps that can be taken to support youth.

*The final turn-in for the PTSO fall fundraiser is TODAY. Please make sure forms are filled out completely and accurately and that full payment accompanies the order. Checks should be made payable to Mickle PTSO. Thank you everyone for your participation!

*In the next two weeks 8th Grade Counselor, Craig Penner, and Social Worker, Tami Rembolt, will be going into 8th Grade Health classes to talk to students about S.O.S. or Signs of Suicide. This is a prevention and assistance program to help students and families when thoughts and actions of self-harm are present. It also helps students identify ways to communicate and help their friends who might be struggling with self-harm. We will talk about the A.C.T. system (Acknowledge, Care, Tell) which is a district supported strategy for students to use when they are concerned about a friend or peer.

Attention Class of 2022: The Career Academy (TCA) is hosting a Career Explorations Fair for 8th-10th graders and their parents to learn more about top career options when you graduate high school. Experience the hands-on learning available at TCA and how to “test drive” your future as a TCA student in one of 20 career pathways. Attend the TCA Career Explorations Fair anytime between 1:00 – 3:00 PM on Sunday, September 24 at 88th & O. Park in the lower south parking lot at SCC, Register for prizes, meet TCA students and instructors and see how “doing high school differently” can make a huge difference in your future success.
