Lincoln Area College Fair

Students and families can visit with representatives from colleges across the state, region, and nation during the Lincoln Area College Fair, Sunday, September 22 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at Southeast Community College, 8800 O Street. Admission is free.

The College Fair, sponsored by EducationQuest Foundation and the Nebraska Association of College Registrars and Admissions Officers, will also feature financial aid presentations.Follow these tips to make the most of your College Fair visit:

  • Before you attend, visit to register for a barcode. Print the barcode, or download it to your phone, and take it to the college fair so that college reps can scan it.
  • Determine which colleges you want to visit (a list is available in the College Fair article at
  • Prepare a list of questions to ask college representatives.
  • Ask about deadlines for admission, scholarship and financial aid applications.
  • Attend a financial aid program to learn about types of aid and how to apply.

Boston University’s Trustee Scholarship

The 45th annual Boston University Trustee Scholarship’s deadline is December 1st for students applying to Boston University. Trustee Scholars rank at the top of their classes and demonstrate exceptional leadership in their schools and communities. Scholarship recipients are selected by a faculty committee from a competitive pool of applicants after rigorous review. The Trustee Scholarship covers full undergraduate tuition plus orientation and mandatory undergraduate student fees for four years. More information about the Trustee Scholarship can be here. Girl Up LPS

Girl Up is a global leadership development initiative hosted by the United Nations Foundation, and Girl Up LPS is one of the largest chapters. This chapter, founded in 2017, is non-partisan and entirely youth-run by LPS high school students.  Girl Up LPS provides youth with an empowering atmosphere to learn about gender-based issues, and the tools and platform needed to advocate for change. 2019 Hispanic/Latino Summit

The 2019 Hispanic/Latino Summit will be held in Columbus, NE on Monday, October 21st!  Registration will open September 15th with a limit of 30 spots per school.  Because of the limited space the Summit is being offered to Junior and Senior High School Students for two weeks to give them priority. If there are still spots available after October 1st registration will be open for 9th-12th grade students.

Careers in Construction Day, Wednesday, September 18th, 9 am – 2 pm; Milford Campus

SCC’s Careers in Construction Day will give students hands on opportunities to explore several construction related career fields. Students will learn from industry leaders and SCC instructors and will work alongside current SCC students welding, bending conduit, exploring drafting software, programming robots, and much more! Automotive Career Expo, Tuesday, September 24th, 4:30 – 6:30 pm; Lincoln Campus

At the Automotive Career Expo prospective you will hear from automotive career experts! The automotive industry has become increasingly technology focused and involves work activities beyond turning wrenches. Job availability and wages continue to rise in all areas of the industry! Participants will have the opportunity to meet current SCC faculty and students and industry partners, tour SCC’s automotive technology classrooms, and learn about the variety of career opportunities in the automotive industry. Careers in Healthcare Day, Thursday, October 3rd, 9:30 am – 2:15 pm; Lincoln Campus

Careers in Healthcare Day will give students the opportunity to explore career opportunities in the healthcare field. Participants will have the opportunity to learn side-by-side with current SCC students and faculty in hands-on activities as they explore career fields such as nursing, dental assisting, medical assisting, respiratory therapy, physical therapist assistant, surgical technology, pharmacy technician, paramedic/EMT, healthcare services, and medical laboratory technology. Participants will also have the opportunity to learn about how SCC can help them achieve their goals in careers like dietitian, medicine, physical therapists through the completion of pre-professional coursework and job training in the healthcare industry. Ag Day, Tuesday, October 15th, 10 am – 2 pm; Beatrice Campus

An opportunity for potential students to oversee the day to day activities that happen at SCC in the Agriculture Department. Students will engage in a variety of activities including grain quality and moisture checking, DNA tissue sample collection, learn about arboriculture, witness the latest in drone technology and learn about its’ benefits, and hear from SCC Ag program graduates. Take a scenic ride through the campus farm and participate in the hands on learning activities. Register at this site:

Careers in Manufacturing & Engineering Technologies Day will give you the opportunity to experience the career opportunities in the manufacturing and engineering technologies field. Participants will learn side-by-side from SCC students, faculty, and industry partners.
