Todd Francis Creative Research Scholarship Awards

Through the Foundation for Lincoln Public Schools, the Todd Francis Creative Research Scholarship Awards were initiated in 1991 as a memorial to Todd Francis’s passion in science, language, and the humanities. Over 11 years, 80 projects have been funded, involving over 200 students and 27 faculty members. Support will be provided for projects that stimulate creativity, and involve actions that benefit society.

Students are encouraged to think about a topic, do preliminary research, and develop a budget. The proposal will be discussed with the student’s faculty advisor, who will make some changes and send the form to the selection committee!

D.J.’s Hero Scholarship Awards

The Salvation Army will be accepting nominations for the 2017 D.J.’s Hero Awards until the post-marked deadline of March 6, 2017. Given in memory of D.J. Sokol, the awards recognize Nebraska high school seniors who exemplify D.J.’s dedication to faith, selfless acts for others and commitment to the community.  Honorees receive a $10,000 scholarship toward their selected university or college. Applications and a Short Best Practices video are available at after February 2nd. To view the 2017 D.J.’s Hero Awards Brochure, please click here.

Scholarship recipients will be recognized at the D.J.’s Hero Awards Luncheon on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at the Embassy Suites Omaha-LaVista Hotetel & Conference Center. This year’s featured speaker is Jewel, a popular singer, songwriter, poetry, actress and philanthropist who overcame homelessness and has a story of perseverance and strength to share.

Potential applicants to be nominated should be that unsung hero, a student who gives 100%, even when no one is looking and rises above hardships and challenges. This person may not be the top student but one who quietly carries out good deeds and has the respect of his or her peers.  For more information, please contact Mari at 402/989.5909 or
