Burt & Becky Whedon Memorial Scholarship

At the Nebraska Society’s Spring Meeting on Sunday, April 24, 2016, the Society will award the second Nebraska Society of Mayflower Descendants Burt & Becky Whedon Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $1,620 to a high school senior planning to attend an accredited 4-year college or university during the 2016-‘17 academic year.

Scholarship applicants must be a resident of Nebraska and a U.S. citizen. Applicants will be evaluated by a written essay, GPA and class rank, ACT or SAT scores, honors received, school or volunteer activities, employment, demonstrated leadership and a letter of recommendation from a teacher or guidance counselor. Mayflower ancestry is NOT a requirement.

Chasers Charities-Robinson Athletic Scholarship Program

D.J. Hero Awards

The Salvation Army is now accepting applications for the DJs Hero Awards.  Given in memory of D.J. Sokol, the awards, recognize Nebraska high school seniors who exemplify D.J.’s dedication of faith, selfless acts for others, and commitment to the community. Honorees receive a $10,000 scholarship their selected university or college. Scholarship recipients will be recognized at the D.J.’s Hero Awards Luncheon on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at the CenturyLink Center Omaha. Coolidge Scholars Program

The Coolidge Scholarship is a full-ride presidential scholarship that covers a student’s tuition, room, board, and expenses for four years of undergraduate study and leadership training. The Coolidge may be used by recipients at any American university. Anyone of any background, pursuing any academic discipline of study, may apply to this non-partisan, need-blind, program.

Students apply for the Coolidge Scholarship during their junior year of high school. Finalists are flown in for a finalist weekend at the Coolidge Historic Site in Plymouth Notch, Vermont where they interview with the Coolidge Scholars Finalist Jury, chaired by Dr. Bruce Cole, former chairman of the National Endowment for the Humanities. Recipients of the Coolidge Scholarship are notified of their award in late May of their junior year, before college application.

CHI St Elizabeth’s Job Fair

On Saturday, March 12 from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m., CHI Health St. Elizabeth will be hosting a job fair to showcase the many different healthcare career opportunities we offer.

UNL’s College of Business Administration: DREAM BIG Academy

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) College of Business Administration is accepting applications for the Annual DREAM BIG Academy to be held July 10 – July 15, 2016.

Applications can be submitted from the student themselves, or a nomination for a student can be submitted by an educator.

The Academy is also accepting applications from UNL students to serve as mentors to the high school students during the Academy. Mentors would be a paid with a stipend and students do not have to be Business majors, only currently attending UNL.

What is the DREAM BIG Academy?

 

The Academy is a five-day symposium at UNL where students will live the college experience and learn about the world of Business. Students will:

  • Participate in a college experience firsthand – academically and socially
  • Network with peers, business leaders as well as UNL faculty and staff
  • Tour local businesses
  • UNL Professors will conduct mock classes and lectures to give the students an idea of what to expect with college courses
  • Align skills with their career goals
  • Present their ideas in a professional context
  • Learn about opportunities at UNL
  • Free room and board in a UNL Residence Hall

The Academy will be conducted in English, but bilingual Mentors may be available to help students if needed.

 

What are the eligibility requirements?

Those who apply, or are nominated, should be:

  • Current high school juniors expecting to graduate high school in 2017
  • First-generation, and/or free and reduced lunch recipients, and/or have knowledge and experience in diverse communities
  • Students who have a 2.5 GPA or higher
  • Have an interest in Business

Students who live in Lincoln are responsible for travel to UNL, students who live outside of Lincoln may have transportation provided by UNL if needed.

A central pick-up location may be determined after the applications have been sent in. Last year, there were pick-up locations in Omaha and Grand Island.

Applications are now being accepted, the deadline is March 4, 2016.
