Barrientos Scholarship Foundation

The Barrientos Scholarship Foundation was established in 2005 to assist Latino students pursuing higher education in Nebraska to continue their educational and career goals.

The Barrientos family, with roots in Omaha, Nebraska that date back to the 1920’s, have long been known for their love of the arts, music and community involvement. Because of that love and commitment to continue that legacy, this scholarship fund was created.

In 2014, the Barrientos Scholarship Foundation established a relationship with the Heartland Latino Leadership Conference (HLLC) and, subsequently, discontinued our annual banquet. The  scholarship recipients are now recognized during the Barrientos Scholarship Luncheon at the HLLC.

Runza KLKN Student-Athlete of the Month

Balancing schoolwork, athletics and one’s personal life is a difficult challenge in high school. Some students do this so well we feel they should be recognized. KLKN TV Channel 8 and Runza® Restaurants created a partnership to honor senior student-athletes for their achievements in the classroom and in the community & provide them with a $500 scholarship for college.

The “Runza® KLKN Student Athlete of the Month” will be interviewed by Sports Director Brett Edwards in a special monthly segment on the 6 and 10 o’clock news broadcasts.

Senior student-athletes interested in having their coaches nominate them for this honor may view the application by clicking here.
