Nebraska Youth Beef Leadership Symposium

For the last 10 years, the Department of Animal Science and University of Nebraska–Lincoln have planned and hosted the Nebraska Youth Beef Leadership Symposium (NYBLS) for youth that have a passion for the beef industry. Youth from across the state of Nebraska as well as from Kentucky, Illinois, Kansas, & Virginia have participated over the year.

This educational symposium allows students to:
  • Network with beef industry leaders and hear about innovative cattle production practices
  • Investigate career areas within the beef industry through participation in hands-on workshops
The main focus of the symposium is to give students the opportunity to develop and market their own beef product in a small team setting. They are then put to the test by judges who taste their products and ask them questions about their marketing plans.
Four $500 scholarships sponsored by the UNL College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources are also awarded to students who demonstrate excellent leadership and teamwork throughout the symposium.
Travel assistance is available to students who are interested in attending. You can go to the website for more information about the symposium as well as to register.
