why publish?

I recently read an article discussing a writer’s viewpoint regarding the most cherished keepsakes loved ones leave when they pass away.

Is it money?  no. Treasured jewels? uh, uh. The expensive BMW in the garage? Nope. Personal writings (journals, letters, cards), pictures, and books are the most treasured personal belongings left behind….

Perhaps this gives reason: why teachers find creative ways to publish each student’s work.  Every time I visit a classroom,  the publications speak to the personal attributes of each unique, individual class.  A class defined by an academic year.

Whether it’s a picture stapled to the classroom bulletin board, a poem collected in a decorated folder, or a movie file displayed on the teacher website, why publish?  To hear the voice sing who we are.
