Hello!

Today the students finished up Unit 1 Week 5 in Wonders.  Next week we will be taking the Unit 6 test.  The test will be over grammar, vocabulary and comprehension from the last 5 weeks.  Please help your child study the grammar and vocabulary words at home.

I also gave the students the directions for their book report projects that will be due October 8.  We discussed figuring out how many pages they need to read each night in order to finish several days ahead of the due date so they had time to do a good job on the project.  We also went over how to fill out a plot chart to help them write a summary.  This will be a very helpful tool to organize their summary and include the major events.  Plot charts and quilt blocks are available in the classroom when your child finishes their book.  Here are the directions for the project:

First Quarter Book Report Project, due Wednesday, October 8.

General Fiction-any type of fiction book you would like to read. Fiction stories use characters, settings, and plots to convey events that are not real.

 Assigned Activity:

1) Write a summary of the story. Be sure to include all of the elements of fiction.

2) Make a 4 block quilt for your project. Make sure your blocks include the following:

Block 1: Title, author and a picture from the book. Do not copy     the current book cover.

Block 2: A short description of the main setting AND a picture of this setting where most of the story took place.

Block 3: Draw and explain 3 important symbols from your book. Make symbols that relate to the characters of the story.

Block 4: Draw and write a description of the two main characters in your book.

Thank you for your continued support!
