About the Director/Band

Jacque Rush was the band director at Scott Middle School since it open in 1996 until May 2020. Prior to that she taught band at Fredstrom Elementary School for 5 years. She was the band director at Norris High School from 1988-1991 and has taught in Sydney, New York and Sylacauga, Alabama. Jacque has also taught saxophone at Nebraska Wesleyan University and the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. She received her Bachelor of Music Education degree in 1978 from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln and her Masters of Music in Performance at Ithaca College, Ithaca New York in 1980. Jacque has three children; Ben, age 39 is a software architect for a software contracting company in Lincoln he has 2 children – a son named Jude age 5 and a daughtr named Caroline age 2.. Stacey, age 37 was a trumpeter in the Army Band she has 3 daughters – Isabel age 11, Ariana age 5 and Evelyn age 2.  Robby age 33, served in the Army for 8 years and is a fireman in Spokane WA. Jacque’s husband Terry is a retired band director. He was the band director at Lincoln High School for 25 years and 5 years at Southwest High School.

Jacque was the 2019 recipient of the Scottish Rite Distinguished Teacher of the Year Award.

The Scott Middle School Band program has have been very successful. There are over 300 students enrolled in the instrumental music program. The bands have received straight superior ratings since the school opened in 1996. They have been selected three times to perform at the Nebraska State Bandmasters Association’s Convention. They were selected to perform in November 2011 for the Nebraska Music Educators Convention.

Scott Middle School changed from a 7,8,9, grade configuration to a grade 6,7,8 configuration in the fall of 2002. There are two 8th grade bands, two 7th grade bands, two 6th grade bands, a 6th grade orchestra a 7th grade orchestra and 8th grade orchestra. The 7th and 8th grade bands and orchestra meet on a daily basis for 52 minutes. The 6th grade students have pull out lessons once a week and meet after school for a full band rehearsal. Lori Falcone teaches full time with me. Julie Krueger and Megan Manning-Kechely also work with the 6th grade band students. Chris Smith teaches the orchestras at Scott Middle School.
