American Literature and Composition – 4/28/2017

Catcher in the Rye and Teenage Rebellion Class Discussion: Students completed a venn diagram for the words conformist and phony.  We also watched a short documentary called Shy Guy” and then compared the connections between the vocabulary and the video.  The overriding question became: Why does Holden rebel against society?  Students answered this after reading chapters 1-7.

Holden Caulfield Characterization Ongoing Assignment (link): Students completed this as part of a review for the first reading, and they will continue to do so for each subsequent reading.

Catcher in the Rye Reading Calendar (link), Study Guide (link), and Reading #2.  Students will read chapters 8-14 for Monday, 5/1.

Eric Frimpong Persuasion Analysis Wrap Up: Students read an analyzed an ESPN the magazine article in class.

Catcher in the Rye Anticipation Guide (link): Students started a new novel unit today, and this guide helped students make connections with themes in the book.
