In grades 4 & 5 the spelling lists in CKLA are designed to support the instruction in the classroom. Some spelling lists will be focused on morphology (the study of meaningful word parts) and contain a common prefix, suffix, or root word. Other spelling lists will be focused on content-specific words that align to the unit being studied. Because of the tight connection to the classroom instruction all students use the same spelling list unless use of a modified list is written into a student’s IEP. In CKLA there is not a spelling list for every week of the school year. I will be sure to communicate with you when a list is coming home and when the assessment over that list will happen.
