Strategies for Calming and Fidgeting

Square Breathing

Square Breathing is a simple way to calm yourself, and even to get focused after a transition. It can be done as a class or individually, without anyone else knowing! It’s my favorite calming strategy.

Lazy Eight Breathing

This strategy is taught as part of the Zones of Regulation Curriculum. Keep breathing along the 8 pattern until you have a calm body & mind.

Finger Pulls

If a student struggles to keep their hands out of their desk, or off of their neighbor’s supplies, finger pulls are worth a try. They have been successful for several of my students.
