Weekly Update 2/7-2/11

This week we concluded our clothing study with a fancy dress day and fashion show! We got to take a walk through the office and through the kindergarten rooms to show off our fancy clothes. We also got to enjoy a fancy lunch 🙂 We started our balls study this week. We have been talking about different types of balls and various things we can do with them.

Our small groups this week included tallying, predicting how many times a ball will bounce, and predicting how many pom poms were in a guessing jar.

Our social emotional curriculum focused on how to manage waiting. We know that waiting is hard work. We talked about different things you can do while you are waiting such as counting or looking for things that are a certain color.

Weekly Update 1/31-2/3

This week we talked about special clothing that people wear to do things. We talked about what people wear to work and what you might wear to play sports. The students loved dressing up in the clothing that we brought in 🙂

 

Our small groups this week included fishing for letters, digging for letters in sand tubs, and making shapes with popsicle sticks.

Our social emotional curriculum has focused on having big feelings. We have talked a lot about how we can calm our bodies if we are having a big feeling. Ask your child if they can tell you a way that they can calm down!

Weekly Update 1/10-1/14

This week we continued our discussion about clothing and how to make clothing. Mrs Bassett showed us her sewing machine and talked about how she uses it to make clothes. We also talked about the different types of lines (straight, curved, slanted) that you might find on clothing. Ask your child if they can think of a letter to make with the different types of lines!

During small groups, we practiced how to retell a story, made shapes with geoboards, and practiced our scissor skills with playdoh.

Our second step lesson focused on strong feelings. We talked about what it means to feel frustrated and how to calm. our bodies when we’re having a strong feeling. We practiced putting our hands on our tummy, saying “stop”, and taking belly breaths.

Weekly Update 12/13-12/17

This week we celebrated our first family socialization with gingerbread houses! Thank you for making this such a fun event!

During small groups this week, we explored dot markers with letters and practiced making clothing words with magnet letters.

Our social emotional lesson focused on feeling worried. We talked about how our bodies might feel if we are having a worried feeling and how we can help our bodies feel better.

Weekly Update 12/6-12/10

This week we have been talking about clothes and took some time to design our own t-shirts! We have been examining different sizes of clothing and talking about why we would wear certain clothes for different weather.

Our small groups this week included a memory game, learning about graphs and practicing how to make and read a graph, and learning how to measure using various tools.

During our social emotional lessons we have been talking about being kind to friends in the classroom. We have talked about how to use kind words, include friends, and be grateful when a friend or adult gives you something. Please take some time to talk to your child about how to be kind in the classroom even when an adult is not right there. We always include everyone in preschool and it is never okay to be unkind or use unkind words.

Weekly Update 11/15-11/19

This week we talked about how trees change and talked about things that are made of wood. Ask your child if they can tell you something that is made from wood!

During small groups this week students made goop (corn starch and water), practiced counting, and practiced identifying positional words with “snowballs”.

Our second step lesson talked about the same and different. We learned that someone might feel differently than you about the same situation and that is okay. We also played a game where we tried to identify the things that were the same about two object and the things that were different.

Weekly Update 11/8-11/12

This week we talked all about what trees need to grow and we started to talk about how trees change. We talked about how our bodies change as we grow older and trees change too.

In small groups this week we practiced making patterns, making our name, and making various emotions using playdoh.

Our second step lessons focused on how to identify when someone is feeling angry and what we can do if we are feeling angry. We have a calm down area in our classroom where students can go if they are experiencing a big emotion. This area has some cozy pillows, sensory toys, and mirrors to support students as they calm their bodies. We also practiced how to take deep breaths and ask a teacher/adult for help.

Weekly Update 11/1-11/5

This week we talked about what food comes from trees and what other things are made from trees. We went on a scavenger hunt to see what we could find around Kloefkorn.

In small groups this week we retold The Gingerbread Man, worked on making letters using shaving cream, and talked about positional words by throwing beanbags.

Our social emotional curriculum focused on talking about emotions. We learned about what might make a friend happy or sad. We also focused on how to be kind at school. We tried to catch kids being kind during the day and they received a smelly marker on their hand!

Weekly Update 10/25-10/29

This week we talked about who lives in trees and how they hurt/help the trees. We predicted what kind of animal might have made their home in a tree and what animal may have hurt a tree.

 

During small groups this week students played Halloween BINGO, practiced making letters with playdoh, and practiced identifying letters.

Our social emotional curriculum focused on safe and unsafe substances for your body. We talked about who can give you medicine and things that are healthy for your body.

Our 2nd quarter home visits are scheduled for November 2-17. You will get a reminder email at least 24 hours before our scheduled time. Please let me know if you need to reschedule.

Weekly Update 10/11-10/14

This week we continued our discussion about trees and talked about the different parts of trees and how we can use our senses to explore trees. We went on a tree walk around the playground and saw the trunks, roots, branches, leaves, and needles.

During small group this week we used teamwork to put together a floor puzzle, practiced making stick letters, and practiced tracing letters.

Our social emotional curriculum focused on using self-talk. We practiced how to use self-talk while making patterns!
