Weekly Update 4/18-4/22

This week we talked about homes that insects make, how they work together, the patterns we notice, and how insects eat. Our butterflies have come out of their chrysalis! The students were all very excited to see them flying in our net. We will release them on Monday!

Small groups this week included the opportunity to practice tallying, retelling The Very Hungry Caterpillar, and playing an insect memory game.

Our social emotional curriculum reviewed safety lessons and introduced a new safety lesson. Our new safety rule is: Always ask a bigger person before petting a dog.

Our small groups this week included making birdfeeders, counting and comparing, and using a “wrecking ball” to knock down towers.

Our social emotional lessons focused on how to solve problems that we might have in the classroom.

Weekly Update 4/4-4/8

This week we celebrated the Week of the Young Child! Each day had a theme: Music Monday, Tasty Tuesday, Work Together Wednesday, Artsy Thursday, and Family Friday. For each day, we had a small group and large group that aligned with the theme for the day.

We spent a little time each day observing our caterpillars. The students are all so excited to watch them change and grow. Ask your child if they can tell you something about our caterpillars!

Weekly Update 3/28-4/1

This week we dove into our insect study. We learned that insects have 6 legs and 3 body parts. We went on an insect walk and introduced our caterpillars. Our caterpillars have grown each day and will soon make their chrysalis! The students have enjoyed looking at them every day and talking about what has changed.

Our small groups this week included a letter identification game, a number line game, and a shape game.

Our second step lessons focused on how to identify the problem. This is something that students struggled with a bit this week. They were able to tell me how they would feel if that problem occurred, but were unable to identify the actual problem. You can practice this at home by asking them to identify the problem in various situations.

Week of the Young Child

Next week, we will be celebrating the week of the young child. Each day has a different theme: Music Monday, Tasty Tuesday, Work Together Wednesday, Artsy Thursday, and Family Friday. If you have not sent me a family picture, please consider doing so so we can include your family picture for our Friday celebration!
