Weekly Update 11/16-11/20

This week we finished talking about what buildings look like in our neighborhood and started talking about who builds buildings. We were able to enjoy the nice weather and take a couple of walks to look at the different features of houses and talked about tools that are used to build houses.

In small groups this week we practiced identifying emotions and talking about why someone might feel a certain way, made patterns using actions, and predicted and counted pom poms in different sized jars.

Our social emotional curriculum talked about safe and unsafe touches. We learned our ways to stay safe: Stop and think, what’s the rule, say words that mean no, and tell a grown-up. We also learned that even if someone wants to give us a safe touch, like a hug, we can always say no.

November 23-November 30 — No School

Weekly Update 11/9-11/13

This week we talked about what the buildings in our neighborhood and other neighborhoods look like. We spent some time talking about the various houses and structures around Kloefkorn and practicing our writing skills by drawing maps and buildings.

In small groups this week the students wrote their names, letters, and shapes in sand, practiced making patterns with colors and shapes, and got to move through different obstacles in the classroom.

Our social emotional curriculum focused on same and different feelings. We talked about how friends might feel differently about the same situation. For example, one friend might be excited to visit the dentist and one friend might feel scared. We learned that it is okay for someone to feel differently than us.

November 24-30 — No school (PLC, Thanksgiving break, Plan Day)

Weekly Update 11/4-11/6

This week we began talking about our buildings study. We talked about what a building was and what kinds of buildings we have seen. We also spent some time looking at pictures of different buildings and talking about what we noticed.

In small groups this week we practiced making letters, went fishing for numbers, and practiced retelling a familiar story. The story we read this week was The Three Little Pigs and the Big Red Dog. Ask your child if they can tell you what happened in our story!

During our Second Step time we talked about what might make us feel angry. We practiced showing friends what our faces look like, talked about times that we have felt angry, and talked about ways to calm our bodies if we are feeling very angry.
