Classroom Policy

The following are just a few of the policies that I implement in my classroom. If you have questions or concerns regarding these policies, please email me at clubash@lps.org.

Homework

  • Homework is assigned daily and due the following day at the beginning of the class period. Students are allowed to revise their homework assignments after I have graded them to improve their grade and understanding of the concepts.
  • Missing homework can be turned in at any time during the unit or chapter of study with no penalty for lateness. However, missing homework assignments will result in a 59% after the completion of the unit or chapter.
  • If homework completion becomes an issue, I will make contact with parents/guardians to resolve the situation. Students often owe before or after school time when this takes place.

Assessments

  • Students who score below 80% on any objective on the district mathematics assessments will be considered non-proficient in the concept. Therefore, those students will receive reteaching through an assigned week of math interventions. Students will be re-assessed on the objectives through future district assessments. Students’ non-proficient scores will be replaced if they reach mastery on those assessments.
  • Students who score below a 60% on science or social studies unit assessments are expected to retake the assessment. However, a student may retake any unit assessment if they are unsatisfied with their score.
  • Informal quizzes in mathematics, science, and social studies are formative tasks that cannot be retaken as they are evidence of the learning process.

Absences

  • If a student is aware of an upcoming absence, the student can inform me so that I may prepare their missing work for them prior to the absence. I would appreciate 2 days notice if possible.
  • If a student is absent for illness or because of an unforeseen event, their work will be prepared for them upon their return. The student has the same number of days to make up the work as they were absent.
  • If a student misses an assessment, the student may arrange time before or after school to make up the assessment. The student is responsible for arranging this time with their parents/guardians.
