About

Hello!  I’m Miss Burkey, a teacher on the 6B team. Mr. Zetterman, Mrs. Wittstruck, Mr. Wagner, Mr. Reinhardt, and Mr. Rump are my 6th grade teaching partners.  Mrs. Wegman is our Special Education Teacher, and Mrs. Feingold is our 6th grade counselor.

I grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska, graduating from Lincoln East High School and then the University of Nebraska with a double major in Elementary Education and Special Education.  I also received a Master’s Degree in Special Ed. from the University.

I started my teaching career at Zeman Elementary with special ed. students K-3rd grade. Next I went to Hill Elementary to teach 4th grade.  This is my eighth year teaching at Scott Middle School in the 6th grade.

When I’m not at school I enjoy spending time with my family.  In the photo, are my 6 nieces and nephews.  We raise beef cattle and Quarter Horses,  so that means lots of time in the saddle.  I tell lots of stories about my family and our animals so I included pictures of some of them!

Here, I am checking a pen full of cattle.

Some of my other hobbies include kick boxing, gardening, biking, reading and occasionally competing in cowhorse competions with my horse, “Miss Kitty”.

In the summer of 2010, Mrs. Wittstruck and I traveled to Panama to spend time with several different indigenous tribes.  We were excited to bring back our experiences, pictures, and artifacts to share with our friends at Scott Middle School. We kept a blog of our adventures.   Check out the “Panama Blog” tab to see pictures and read about our trip.
