Math Strategies

Printable Version
These problem solving steps help students understand the problem and guide them in developing skills to solve the problem.  Teaching a procedure is not as powerful as helping students know WHY they solved the problem that way.  We always want students to explain how they arrived at the answer and even explain another strategy they could use.
In class, students will follow these steps while problem solving:
1.  Think about what you know
2.  Make a plan
3.  Solve
4. Look back.  Does it make sense?
