LSW Wrestling Vision and Roles

Vision:

To help LSW high school students mature into young adults by building a sense of community through the sport of high school wrestling.  To develop character of mind and body.  To use this character to fulfill our potential of becoming the best wrestling program we can be. Our vision is to help wrestlers develop a sense of team above self, empathy, and the drive to want to wrestle for each other, not with each other.

Roles:

Coaches:  The coaches’ role is to provide a safe and caring atmosphere, where everybody on the team can experience an individual high level of success, first as a student and then as a wrestler.  The coaches are responsible for the safety and well-being of ALL wresters, managers, and trainers associated with the program.  The coaching staff will communicate with the head parent representative to get information to the entire team and will also communicate with school administration regarding any academic or behavioral issues that deal with any member of the team.

Wrestlers:  It is the wrestler’s role to be at school every day and to be in class on time.  The wrestler’s role is to understand that they carry with them an alumni legacy and what we believe to be a tradition of excellence.  It is also their responsibility to realize that their actions will leave an impression on the school, the coaching staff, and themselves after they graduate.  The wrestlers’ athletic role is to be at practice on time every day and to creatively and constructively assist peers in becoming the best student-athletes they can be.  A wrestler’s job is also to maintain a level of maturity to allow his/her peers to assist in becoming a better student athlete.

Student Aide(s):  The aide’s role is to assist Crystal and Rebecca in making sure that our wrestlers are physically prepared to compete at the highest level and to monitor any suspected injuries when Crystal and Rebecca are not available.  It is the student aide’s responsibility to attend practices and competitions as per the request of Crystal and/or Rebecca.

Managers:  The managers’ role is to assist the coaching staff and the wrestlers in making sure that the practice room is prepared and safe to be in, which includes disinfecting the mats after each practice.  The managers will also be in charge of sorting equipment at the beginning of the season and helping store it when the season is over.  It is the managers’ responsibility to ensure that there are at least two managers at each practice and at least four at each competition.  They are responsible for keeping a written scoring record for wrestle-offs and at all competitions to assist the coaching staff in the event of a potential scoring error.  They will also assist in gauging the atmosphere and morale of the team and report any concerns to the coaching staff.

Parents/Guardians:  The parents’ and guardians’ role is to help their wrestler learn how to communicate the basic logistics of the wrestling season.  Practice times (both during school and breaks), competition times, departure times, weigh-in times, wrestle-off dates, etc. would be some examples of things that both parties need to know.  The parents and guardians should also keep an open line of communication with the head parent representative and the coaching staff regarding absences, appointments, vacations, or other events that would keep the wrestler from fulfilling his/her role as stated above.
