2nd Grade

Welcome to Adams Second Grade! We have high academic and behavioral expectations for our students. We look forward to partnering with you this year to provide the best education possible for your child.

Homework:

One of the expectations in second grade is nightly homework. The schedule below shows how students will have nightly math homework and are expected to read for 15 minutes at least 5 days per week (Friday through Friday) documented on a reading log. They will also receive a spelling list each Monday to study for the weekly spelling test given on Fridays.

For information specific to your child’s class, please refer to their teacher’s individual site.

If there is a special circumstance and there is no homework, a note will be sent home with your child. Thank you for partnering with us to provide the best learning experience possible for your child this year!

Weekly Reading Tests:

To help your student grow and succeed this year, the second grade teachers want to share the reading expectations with you. Every Friday we will be testing reading vocabulary and reading comprehension, as well as spelling tests. Fridays are an important day in second grade!

The best way to help your child at home is to have them read to you each night. You can record this time on their book log that is due every Friday. Another great way to help your child prepare for the test is to use the online student Wonders Reading Program. Your student can access the stories we read each week and play games that reinforce the skills learned in class.

• To Access Wonders Online Components:

Our reading program, Wonders, has an online component to it that allows families to access the reading materials and games from home. This is a great resource that can provide support and enrichment to our students in a digital format. Please do not feel that you need to have your child pre-reading materials, and at this time we will not be assigning any homework using this website. The materials are updated frequently, however, it is possible that the stories may not align with the current selection in class. We ask for you patience with this, as there are many factors that influence the online schedule, ex. Snow days.

The Wonders website can be accessed at the following link using your student’s school username and password. This log in information is the same from previous years. We will also be sending this information toward the beginning of the school year.
