Lincoln Public Schools

Our JFK Moment

As we prepare to close this school year and make plans for the fresh new one, I would like us to consider our future opportunities. How can we build a healthier classroom environment, for both students and ourselves? Are there opportunities to build more movement into learning opportunities and new, non-food ways to reward students? If you help make decisions about fund raising events or celebrations, how might these become more about activity and fun?

If our role is outside of the classroom, how can we be an active part of making our workplace healthier this upcoming year? This is not a call to point the finger at other people or systems that need to change. This is our chance to consider the choices within our scope of work that we can directly impact. Sometimes it might be as simple as helping lift barriers for those who have been trying to move efforts forward. Maybe this is our chance to become more involved in our school’s wellness team. Many hands will make for light work.

“Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.” –John F. Kennedy

It’s okay to start small, but by all means, start. Imagine what we can have to show by the end of next year if all 7,200 people receiving this email make the choice to take little steps? Ultimately it’s up to each of us. I can’t wait to hear about your plans!
