The budget for speech is normally divided primarily into entry fees for tournaments, judging fees to cover entries, and transportation to get the team there. In addition, a smaller portion is spent on materials such as scripts, interpretation books, visual aids/stands/cariers, extemp materials, and other consumables.
District funding covers about two-thirds of our budget, so like every speech team in the city, we must do fundraising to cover regular season costs, as well as any trips to National tournaments. Some of that fundraising comes from hosting tournaments, such as the Holiday Joust Speech Invite in December. The rest must come from more specific funding.
Our first fundraiser for this year will be a bowl-a-thon, which will be held on Thursday, October 24th at 4:00 at Parkway Lanes. Team members are expected to use the pledge sheet below to get pledges per pin, go bowling as a team, collect on the pledges, and then turn in the pledge sheet with funds by October 31st.
