About Me…

I grew up in Lincoln and was a Cougar, Missile, and Rocket at Kahoa, Mickle, and Northeast.  My wife is a HS principal in LPS and I have two sons, one just graduated from college and one will be a sophomore in college. In my spare time I like to be outdoors, play golf, run, bike, officiate basketball, etc.  I used to coach a lot of youth basketball, but all the youth in my house are no longer youth so I try to find other things to do with my time.

I’ve been a math teacher since 1998, I’ve taught in the Omaha Public Schools, Millard Public Schools, LPS, Norris Public Schools, and now LPS again.  In there also I retired from teaching for four years and worked for an online publishing company.  When the company was bought and sold and jobs were being talked about being moved to Dallas I decided to come back to the classroom.  From and education point of view my first degree is in architectural engineering, my masters degree is in secondary teaching with emphasis on instructional technology.

In addition to teaching during the year, for the past 16 years I have been a consultant for the College Board.  During the year I lead one- or two-day workshops geared at teaching teachers how to teach AP Calculus.  In the summer I also lead several week-long workshops called AP Summer Institutes, or APSI.  Although the last two years the workshops have been mostly via Zoom, doing this work has allowed me to  travel and work with teachers in such places as Fort Lauderdale, San Diego, Chicago, Los Angeles, Indianapolis, Philadelphia, San Antonio, Madison, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, and Hawaii.

I really enjoy the work I do for the college board, it allows me to meet and work with great teachers from across the country and learn from them as they also learn from me. Four summers ago I became a facilitator for code.org, the publisher of our AP CSP curriculum and I’ve spent a week the last four summers leading Nebraska teachers in learning how to teach AP CSP. Fun times.

Please stop me and say hi or introduce yourself if you see me out and about in the real world!
