We are excited to announce that all Lincoln Public School students and staff will be invited to participate in a special LPS Solar Eclipse Celebration early in the 2017-2018 school year!
On Monday, August 21, students and staff will take part in a solar eclipse experience for this once-in-a-lifetime event: a full solar eclipse visible in the Lincoln and Southeast Nebraska area. Guided by specialists in all curriculum areas, the eclipse day of celebration will be preceded by a full week of rich, hands-on learning opportunities leading up to the total eclipse.
Special safety glasses will be provided for all students and staff at Lincoln Public Schools – glasses that have been approved by the LPS Medical Advisory Committee. We will also be training staff and students the entire week leading up to the eclipse on safe viewing procedures. Alternate activities will be provided for students who choose to stay inside.
A committee of safety and science experts has been working for months to make sure this is a wonderful learning experience –and a safe activity. You will receive more detailed information about the Schoo celebration at the beginning of the school year.
