Second Grade Science Standards
•SC.1.3.a Use observations of the sun, moon, and stars to describe patterns that can be predicted. •SC.1.3.b Make observations at different times of the year to relate the amount of daylight to the time of year.
Matter Changes 2.2.1 Separate and sort objects by physical properties. 2.2.2 Observe and describe physical properties of objects (freezing and melting, sinking and floating, color, size, texture, shape, weight). 2.2.3 Describe the properties of solids, liquids, and gases. 2.2.4 Identify solids and liquids and recognize that liquids take the shape of their container. 2.2.5 Observe that matter can change from a solid to a liquid to a gas by heating and from a gas to a liquid to a solid by cooling.
Earth Changes SC.2.3.a Use information from several sources to provide evidence that Earth events can occur quickly or slowly.
SC.2.3.b Compare multiple solutions designed to slow or prevent wind or water from changing the shape of the land.
SC.2.3.c Develop a model to represent the shapes and kinds of land and bodies of water in an area.
SC.2.3.d Obtain information to identify where water is found on Earth and that it can be solid or liquid
Soil SC.2.1.aPlan and conduct an investigation to describe and classify different kinds of materials by their observable properties. SC.2.1.bAnalyze data obtained from testing different materials to determine which materials have the properties that are best suited for an intended purpose.
