Money is from the Federal government, or have to follow federal regulations.  Equity is not Equality.  It needs to be fair. Each student getting what they need.

Elementary and Secondary Education Act 1965, most recent is NCLB.   The roots of federal funding is desegregation.

 Goal is to Remove barriers, poor and minority students and families.  Success is measured with youth and families attain self- sufficiency and reach their full potential.  Birth to  graduation and beyond.

Project Homeless Connect today at Pershing.    Josh volunteered today and 200 people were at Pershing at 10am waiting for the doors to open.

Irene Prince- Transitional Specialist

The juvenile justice system is set up so the kids will get out, but they need support to become successful.

Beginning of the year  200-300 students on probation….  End of the year 600 students.

*Helps students transition back to public schools from jail, detention center etc.  Kearney and  – 1.  helps the students to find someone at the school who is at school every day  that they can trust.

2.  Think about the future, not just lunch.  Setting realistic goals.  Teach different Behavior expectations, different from the street and in school.

3. Try to find ways to meet the kids needs.

*Life skills group  once a month.

Parents fill out a form, self identified and will try to help the families to enroll the children into their tribe.

About 600 students in the district,

hire tutors for the Elementary students

NAM- Native American

Migrant Education – currently 300 identified, get more social service help.
