Field Trips!!

One of the special parts of being an ELL Teacher is that I have the opportunity to work with so many wonderful children in the course of a school day.  Also since I have been the Kindergarten ELL teacher for the last 7 years, I have also been given the wonderful opportunity to know most of the ELL students that come to West Lincoln so when there is a need for field trip chaperones I am happy to help out.  This past week was a perfect storm of field trips.  Kindergarten went to the Lincoln Children’s Zoo on Tuesday afternoon, 2nd grade went to the Lincoln Children’s Museum on Wednesday afternoon and Mrs. Hughes 3rd grade class went on the Downtown walking tour all day Thursday.  Field trips are such a great opportunity for our students at West Lincoln to have the opportunity to apply what they are learning at school to real life.  With West Lincoln being a Title 1 school and a growing ELL population, many of our students do not get to go out and explore the treasures of Lincoln like some families.  The  parents are working 2 or 3 jobs to put food on the table,  they are new to town and do not know about the fun stuff for families or the history.  Field trips with students are such an eye opening experience for students and sometimes life changing experiences because they see something outside of school to work towards!!!
