ELL Level 4 and 5- End of year Info.

It is down to the last few days of school and all of the fun end of year school paper work needs to be completed.  At this busy time of the school year please do not forget about the ELL levels of your students.  Many students are levels 4 and 5 and they have not been pulled out for ELL, but they are still ELL.  The district does not have the ELL teachers pull these students for ELL services, because the students have enough of a basic understanding of English that they can access the general education curriculum without having to be pulled into a small more sheltered ELL classroom.  As a result it is easy to forget these students are still ELL students.  ELL students at any level from Level 1 to 5 need background scaffolding, extra vocabulary support and sometimes just a little extra here and there.  They do look and act like general education students, but they do have some different needs.

At this time of the year, these level 4 and 5 students will be considered for Completion of ELL if they have met the following criteria.

ELL Level 4 or 5.

Pass the NeSA- R

Composite score of 4 or 5 on ELDA.  (We get these scores in July.)

If you have questions about your students ELL level, please ask their current ELL teacher for their level and if you have a level 4 or 5 student check with me if you are unsure.
