#13, #13A ELDA Testing Information for 3rd- 5th grade Teachers

It’s time of year of again.  .  . ELDA Testing  (And it is my lucky 13th post of the year?)

On Monday,  Two retired LPS teachers will be coming to individually test ALL of current our ELL students in Level 1-5 in grades 3-5.  We have 27 3rd graders, 29 4th graders and 17 5th grade students to test their English Speaking skills.   Each and every student needs to be tested.  The 2 testers will be here Monday – Thursday of this week to test all 74 kids in a one- on- one testing setting in one of our 2 closet spaces at school!
Jacki and I will be working on scheduling the written part of the test.   The written part includes listening, reading and writing.  We will most likely be testing in the ELL portables since they are quieter than the ELL classrooms in the building.   We cannot have groups larger than 15 students and our rooms are not set up for more than 12 and we will need to make sure we give all of our dually label SPED students the appropriate accommodations.      We have 14 students with SPED accommodations and another 11 students that we need to have in small groups for other needs.   This schedule will be coming out soon….  ( If you have Theme tests coming up, please let me know.)
Classroom teachers, since you work with the majority (ELL only sees 30 of the 74 students on a daily basis) of these students PLEASE encourage  these students to do their very best work, this will be the 3rd year the 5th graders will be taking this test.  As soon as they pass this test, they will lose their ELL label.   This data is looked at by the district, state and government.    Although you are not responsible for giving this test it is really important that the students do their best work and do well on this test.
13 A  ELDA Information for K-2 teachers
K-2 Teachers,

Your ELDA checklists should be ready by the end of the day Monday-  Rebecca, Laura, Denise and I went through the ELL kids checklist’s that we work with and filled out what we could do. Please talk with the ELL teacher if you have any questions, concerns or see the student differently than what we marked.    I do not think we need to have a meeting,  I will hand deliver them to you
I also want to give you a head’s up that we my have cancel or rearrange some of our  k-2 groups due to the large number of kids and kids who need accommodations that we need to give the  3rd-5th grade ELDA to.
