#7 Parent Teacher Conferences

Conferences are only 3 weeks away.  We usually have a great turnout from our families. We have our interpreted conferences in the cafeteria, since we have too many interpreters to have them in the Media Center

I am almost done with scheduling the interpreted conferences, if you want to check out my system of scheduling the conferences please come to my room (behind the fish curtain through the ART room) on Monday since I hope to take The Conferences down and put back my teaching wall.   At this time I have 5 Spanish interpreters, 1 Ukrainian and 1 Nuer interpreter for Thursday night and  6 Spanish interpreters, 1 Arabic, 1 Vietnamese and 1 Ukrainian interpreter for Tuesday.   I am still trying to get 1 more Nuer and 1 Kurdish interpreter.  So once it is all said and done, we will have 18 interpreters for 2 nights of conferences to talk about 175 students!! At this time ELL only works with 110 students on a daily basis.  Every teacher in the school has ELL students and some teachers may be quite surprised on which families need interpreters and which families do not.  This will be the most interpreters we have ever had at West Lincoln and we have a little bit more diversity in our linguistics than just Spanish.

Next week after Liz has the family scheduling conference  to schedule the English only conference and you get your conference sheet you will know that the interpreted conferences are the ones with a star next to the student’s name*.

Translated forms to go home will be in the office behind Joyce’s desk.  This year I will have an example of how to fill out the form since everyone does not know how to read Arabic, Ukrainian/Russian, Vietnamese, and Spanish. For Nuer and Kurdish students just fill out an English form.

If you have questions about conferences please ask.

Becky
