We completed our two nights of parent teacher conferences this past Tuesday. Along with the great turn out of families during both nights of conferences we had many students hanging out at school with the Book Fair and our New to You give away. Many students were so excited to share their new clothes, books, toys, games, etc with me and other staff members. The school was the place “to be” in the neighborhood on those two nights.
A celebration that I had was that there were several families that “needed” some Spanish translation. I put needed in quotes because the parents thought that they needed my help in translating when in fact over the past 2-4 years their English has gotten to be better than my Spanish. I was so thrilled for these parents, some of them are in our PACT program where they are learning along side their children. Some have learned on their jobs, where ever they have they learned their English, they have learned it and are becoming more fluent and confident every day. WE are a community of learners.
