IMAGINE the possibilities, BELIEVE in their potential, and ACHIEVE at their highest level.
From our Principal……..
The original Riley School, named for the poet James Whitcomb Riley, was built in 1910 at 47th and Adams. Riley Elementary is now located in the north central section of Lincoln, NE at 5021 Orchard Street. Riley is a hidden gem with dedicated teachers, hard-working students and supportive families. Riley has met AYP for the last five years and continues to work hard to set and meet rigorous academic goals. Riley is also known for having one of the most beautiful gardens and learning areas in Lincoln Public Schools.
Riley Elementary is a growing school and includes grades kindergarten through fifth. There are three sections in each grade level with the exception of two third grade sections. Specialists serve Riley students in Music, PE, Art, and Computer. Riley uses the BIST philosophy and Positive Behavior Supports as its organizational structure when developing systems for learning and discipline. Using a school wide discipline approach reduces the number of behavior concerns and maximizes our instructional time.
Riley instituted some new programs last year to help students new to our building. One was the Student Ambassador Program. Students interested in being a Student Ambassador had to apply and demonstrate good character. This program was designed to provide a new student with a friend and resource on their first day of attendance. The Student Ambassador sticks by the new student all day. Student Ambassadors play with the new student at recess, eat lunch with them, take them on a tour of the building, and introduces them to all the adults in the building using proper introduction techniques. The Student Ambassador is responsible for teaching the new students the unique routines and expectations of the classroom and the building.
With a 63% free and reduced lunch count, Riley qualified as School-wide Title One Building in March 2011. Riley has two Intervention teachers for math and reading support. As a Community Learning School, Riley strives to be involved in our students’ lives by providing extra learning opportunities, family activities and community resources. Riley also partners with Family Service to provide before and after school programming to meet the needs of students and families’ care and academic needs.
Our mission to help our Riley students: IMAGINE the possibilities, BELIEVE in their potential, and ACHIEVE at their highest level. Riley wants to provide meaningful and challenging learning opportunities for all Riley students in a safe and positive environment. Riley staff, families, & students will share the responsibility for academic achievement, positive character development, & support of individual and cultural differences.
