Hats on to Fight Hunger 9/29

On Friday, September 29th, we are hosting a Hats On to Fight Hunger day.  We are trying to raise awareness and funding for the BackPack program.  Students are asked to wear their favorite hat to school.  Stickers can be purchased for $1 dollar that will be placed on their hats.  All money from the sticker sale will go to the BackPack Extra Mile walk, which will be in April.  Classroom teachers will have the stickers.

The BackPack Extra Mile program raises money in order to fill a backpack with food to give to a child of need every Friday during the school year.  This program was launched in the 2004-2005 school year at Clinton Elementary.  Children are our most important and valuable assets, and research shows that healthy, well-nourished children are much better learners.  Currently 2,291 LPS students at 32 LPS schools receive weekly food-filled backpacks.  The program now includes students from private and parochial schools in Lincoln, as well as from 29 rural communities.  Pyrtle currently has 13 families receiving support from this amazing program.

As a BackPack Committee, we are challenging students to not ask for a dollar, but see if they can earn a dollar by doing good deed.  This will allow the students to take ownership and understand the importance of doing something for others.  For every $1 we can raise, the Food Bank can produce $5 worth of food for the BackPack program!

We have 10 vouchers for free entry for the run if you qualify for free/reduced lunch while supplies last, please email Mr. Armagost. narmago@lps.org

Thanks for all of your support with the BackPack Extra Mile program!
