SFP – Science Focus Program (Zoo School)

The Science Focus Program was created in 1997. In the 1990’s Lincoln Public Schools developed Focus Programs to provide students with similar interests the option to learn in a small community of learners. The programs are an extension of student learning in their LPS home high school of choice. There is no additional fee or tuition charged for program participation.

SFP Students play an active role in defining their learning environment and education. Students take traditional course work that is infused with additional layers of critical thinking and research based inquiry about the world and themselves, inside and outside of the classroom.

The program existed in temporary facilities and portable trailers at the Lincoln Children’s Zoo from 1997 – 2019, establishing it’s nickname as “Zoo School.”

In the Fall of 2019, the SFP program moved into a new, purpose-built facility with innovative science labs and collaborative work spaces. The campus is located adjacent to the Lincoln Children’s Zoo Entrance and Plaza. In addition to having access to the zoo, SFP students enjoy the use of our own outdoor learning spaces and a multipurpose room.
