This is to inform you of my expectations/classroom procedures. Read the information carefully and do not hesitate to let me know if questions arise.

Expectations for Pre-College

  • Be physically prepared for class
    • Be on time
    • Have assignment, calculator, blank paper & pen/pencil ready
    • Put any distractions away.
  • Be mentally prepared for class
    • Focus on math class
    • Actively engage in class
  • Give everyone a chance to learn
    • Don’t shout out answers
    • Expect to make mistakes, this is part of the learning process

The classroom is a learning environment. You are expected to contribute and maintain it by demonstrating appropriate classroom behaviors and following all classroom procedures. I am excited to help you do your best in mathematics and look forward to being a part of your journey to become a life-long learner!

Be RESPECTFUL, Be RESPONSIBLE, Be SAFE!!!

Suggestions for Success:

  1. Attendance – It is important to be fully present each day for instruction. This includes being in your seat on time, having needed materials, being ready to listen, and asking questions.
  2. Organization / Note Taking – Organize your notes in such a way that you can retrieve important information and equation solving procedures.
  3. Homework – Turn in completed homework on time. Mathematics is very sequential, thus practicing new skills each day is critical to understanding the material and gaining the skills/knowledge to move forward.
  4. Preparation – Prepare for quizzes, tests and exams by reviewing and asking questions as needed.
  5. Confidence – Have confidence in yourself as a mathematician! Each day brings new opportunities to build upon skills you have already mastered. You will be amazed at what you can learn when you believe in yourself!

DISTRICT AND LNE – CELL PHONES / ELECTRONIC DEVICES POLICY

Students may use their cellular phones, all electronic devices, and accessories during lunch, breakfast, and passing times with no audible sound.  Cell phones and other electronic devices (iPods, I Touches, and other non-LPS electronic devices) are valuable and important communicative devices in today’s world. However, the use of cell phones during the class period can distract from the learning process. Cell phones are to be off (not on vibrate) and out of sight during class periods (bell to bell) unless the use is related to instruction as directed by the classroom teacher.  Students may use cell phones before school, at lunch, during passing periods, and after school.  Failure to comply may result in disciplinary action including confiscation of the phone.  Students violating the policy may have their cellular phones, electronics, and/or accessories confiscated.  Student failure to comply with staff request is insubordination and will result in disciplinary consequences.  LPS Technology Guidelines will apply at all times (see Lincoln Public Schools Responsibilities of Students, pages 21-23 and Regulation 3972.1 Acceptable Use of Computers, Network, Internet and Websites). Procedures:

There are procedures to everything we do in class, from how you enter the classroom, conduct yourself in the classroom, and leave the classroom. These procedures will be learned during the course of the semester and must be followed to insure an efficient classroom environment.

Each and every day you need to bring to class your completed assignment (when applicable), a pencil, an eraser and a 3-Ring Binder/folder with lined paper.

You can expect a daily assignment. Plan a block of time each day in which to complete your homework. Assignments must be completed with applicable work shown in your problem solving process.

When you are absent from class, it is your responsibility to determine what you missed. Talk to me if you have questions regarding make-up work including any tests/quizzes.

If you need extra help, ask for it! I will be available to assist you before and after school.

Grades:

Grades are based on both formative (20%) and summative assessments (80%). Formative assessments include quizzes (announced or unannounced), daily homework, and bell ringers. Summative assessments include all unit and cumulative tests.

The math departments grading scale is as follows:

90% – 100%     A

85% – 89%       B+

80% – 84%       B

75% – 79%       C+

70% – 74%       C

65% – 69%       D+

60% – 64%       D

Below 60%     F
