Announcements for Parents – #Robinmicklems:

There will be no Homework Club on Monday, May 14 because of the celebration for the teachers who are retiring from Mickle.

There will be no Homework Club on Tuesday, May 15 because of the faculty meeting.

Mickle Parents. Student Council will be hosting after school end of the year parties for each grade level: 6th Grade, May 16th. The parties will take place from 3-4pm, with all students off campus by 4pm. We will be having a BBQ for the students, serving hot dogs and pop. We would like parent volunteers to start bringing pop, hotdogs buns to the Mickle office for these parties. Thank you. Mickle Student Council. Any questions contact Ms. Wiemer

Special Showing of “Bully” to be followed by Discussion

Students are encouraged to attend a special showing of the documentary “Bully” at 9 a.m. Saturday May 12th at the Grand, 1101 “O” Street. The movie will be followed by a panel discussion led by Dr. Susan Swearer, a UNL psychology professor who is co-director of the Bullying Research Network.

The discussion will be taped and aired on the government cable access channels 5(5 City-TV)and 10(10 Health) as well as 21 Educational Access.  The channels are part of the Citizen Information Center (CIC), a division of the Mayor’s Office.

A limited number of free tickets will be available at the Grand, and doors will open at 8:15 a.m.  The Lincoln Community Foundation and Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital have helped to fund the free tickets, and additional sponsors are needed, Interested individuals, organizations and businesses can contact Diane Gonzolas, CIC, at 402-441-7831, or Bill Luxford, 5 City-TV, at 402-441-6688. The regular ticket price is $6.

According to the American Justice Department, one out of every four children is a victim of bullying, and at least two children are bullied every seven minutes.   The 98-minute movie tells the stories of five families dealing with bullying, including two who lost children due to suicide. It is rated PG-13 for its  intense themes, disturbing content and strong language.

 

KFOR, along with local businesses, have teamed up to bring us Summer Fun Punch Tickets.  Tickets cost only $5.00 each, and 100% of the proceeds stays at Mickle to be used for our students.  Businesses providing free or reduced cost activities this summer include Shrine Bowl, Paint Yourself Silly, Lincoln Children’s Zoo and Museum, Champions Fun Center, Lincoln Saltdogs, Lancaster County Super Fair, Urban Legends Art, Laser Tag, Lux Center for the Arts, Grisanti’s, and Lost in Fun.   These activities are valued at over $50, but you get them for $5.  This is a deal.  You need to purchase one ticket per child. Tickets are sold in the Mickle Office before and after school beginning May 9th, Wednesday.  Questions can be directed to Susie Carlson –wegotkidz@aol.com.

8th GRADE PARTY:  Anyone interested in helping with food for the 8th Grade Party can contact Sue Sattler at dssattler5@windstream.net or Amy Uhlmann at aluhlmann@hotmail.com.   We are also looking for raffle prizes for the party.  Free food coupons are great.  Gift cards to stores like Best Buy, Bath & Body Works, etc. are great.  Anyone wishing to help with raffle prizes can contact Amy Cink at amycink@live.com.

Mickle’s Planner Word of the Week: Reliability    – It’s not easy to keep track of everything you need to do! Use your planner as an extension of your brain.

The time has come, this is the last week to order you yearbook for $20. Beginning Monday May 14th the price increases to $22. See Mrs. Searls this week before school to get yours ordered.
