The Value of Reading
Reading is so important during the first five years of life. Below are some helpful sites about the value of literacy and some suggestions for improving the literacy of your child.
Tips for choosing books for children:
- Young children love word repetition and rhyme
- Tactile (touch) books involve more of the child’s senses
- Colorful books help increase mental development and enjoyment of reading
Many city libraries create ready-made packs of children’s books: books on colors, books on animals, books on the alphabet. Let your child pick out a set of books.
