How do the auditions work?
When you arrive at Lincoln Southeast, you will be greeted by one of the choir staff and asked to complete an audition form. Once this is completed students will be asked to go to the choir room to learn an excerpt of music. A CD of the excerpt will be playing continuously in the choir room. When your student believes she has learned the music well enough, she will go to the audition room to sing for Mr. Hansmeyer. The audition is three-part. The first part consists of singing “My Country ‘Tis of Thee.” Next, girls will be asked to sight-sing a line of music on the syllable, “la.” This shows us if students can read music or not (you do not necessarily have to do well on this part to make the group). Finally, students will be asked to sing the piece learned in the choir room.
