Dear McPhee Students and Families,

Welcome to the 2013-2014 school year.  You will see some new faces in the McPhee office as we start the year.  Seth Lutz will be our assistant principal and our secretary, Shari Shaal, will serve as registrar. We invite you to stop in and meet these staff members as we look forward to another great year of learning and growing at McPhee.

This Important Information book has been developed to give you specific McPhee Elementary School information essential to your school success.  This book, in conjunction with the LPS Important Information book, provides critical parent/student information.  Please check our website, http://mcphee.lps.org, for information as well.  You may call the McPhee office at 402-436-1150 or email Elaine Simpson at esimp@lps.org with any additional questions you may have.

At McPhee Elementary School, we believe that all students can learn, perform and behave at grade level or above and that it is the responsibility of all adults in a child’s life to help them achieve this goal.  Everything we do at school every day and all the decisions we make are based on this belief.  We know if we work hard as a school and family team, we can help each child reach this important goal.  Thank you for partnering with us this year to help all students learn, perform and behave at grade level or above.

Our Community Learning Center is one resource to help us achieve this goal.  It provides programs for McPhee students and families before and after school, as well as in the evenings and during the summer.  Our Community Learning Center works to increase student achievement, to support families and to build stronger neighborhoods.  We are excited that, in moving back home, the CLC program will again be housed at McPhee School.  The director, Nicole Weber, can answer any questions you have about this program.  Please see the Community Learning Center information included in this mailing for more details.

The McPhee staff will start the school year looking at academic achievement data from the previous year and determining School Improvement goals for 2013-2014.  Please watch for more information about these learning goals and how we can work together to help all students achieve academic success.

Our school-wide behavior management plan, Behavior Intervention Support Team, will increase student learning time and lead to higher levels of academic success.  Please refer to the information sheets about B.I.S.T. in this packet.  B.I.S.T. teaches life skills that help children be successful in school and in life.  Thanks for your support of your child’s learning and behavior by supporting our use of B.I.S.T.

Finally, please consider joining the McPhee PTA and volunteering in your child’s classroom.  We look forward to seeing you at Open House, Curriculum Night, PTA meetings, Family Nights and Parent Teacher Conferences.  By working together we can help all McPhee students learn, perform and behave at grade level or above in 2013-2014!
