From the Principal
Greetings McPhee students and families from McPhee Principal, Elaine Simpson. Welcome to the 2014-2015 school year. This year we welcome several new staff members to McPhee. Some new and exciting opportunities will be available for our students and families.
At McPhee Elementary School, we believe that all students can learn, perform and behave at grade level or above and that it is the responsibility of all adults in a child’s life to help them achieve this goal. Everything we do at school every day and all the decisions we make are based on this belief. We know if we work hard as a school and family team, we can help each child reach this important goal. Thank you for partnering with us this year to help all students learn, perform and behave at grade level or above.
Our McPhee Parent Teacher Association (PTA) continues to expand and improve. Many exciting preparations are being made for a Festival of Friends in August and a family field trip in the fall. The PTA is always looking for additional participation and new ideas. Please see the information in this packet and consider joining the McPhee PTA.
As a Community Learning Center (CLC) School, McPhee staff and families partner with the community to create ‘Smart Kids, Thriving Families and Strong Neighborhoods.’ Through the CLC and the many partnerships we have created with the community, we are able to provide before and after school care and enrichment clubs for our students, as well as a variety of other programs for students and families in the evenings and during the summer. A new partnership with the United Way beginning this school year will continue to enhance the opportunities available for families and students. Our School Community Coordinator, Nicole Weber, will be available at Open House and can answer any questions you have about Community Learning Center Schools and the opportunities available at McPhee. Please see the Community Learning Center information included in this mailing for more details.
The McPhee staff will start the school year looking at academic achievement data from the previous year and determining School Improvement goals for 2014-2015. Please watch for more information about these learning goals and how we can work together to help all students achieve academic success.
Our school-wide behavior management plan, Behavior Intervention Support Team (B.I.S.T.), will increase student learning time and lead to higher levels of academic success. Please refer to the information about B.I.S.T. in this packet. In addition this year, all LPS elementary schools will implement Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBiS). More information will be coming about PBiS throughout the school year.
We look forward to seeing you at Open House, Curriculum Night, PTA meetings, Family Nights and Parent Teacher Conferences. By working together we can help all McPhee students learn, perform and behave at grade level or above in 2014-2015!
