Seton Hall University is proud to announce the continued success of its Brownson Speech and Debate Team. This highly selective team has an incredible record over the course of its 75 year history at SHU.
Participants maintain the tradition of rhetorical excellence as they compete against other universities in speaking events across the country. Highlights of the many accomplishments of the Brownson Speech and Debate Team include:
- For 32 consecutive years, the top two state-ranked debaters have been Seton Hall students, who have represented New Jersey in national competitions
- Ranking 12th in the United States at the National Forensic Association (NFA) national tournament
- Winning more than 9,500 awards since 1985
While all interested full-time undergraduate students may audition for a spot on the team, many are selected from the College of Communication and the Arts. Seton Hall University’s programs offer students the opportunity to learn from experienced media professionals, explore the latest trends in emerging technologies, and intern in the communication capital of the world — New York City. In the College of Communication and the Arts, they will also receive essential training in such valuable career skills as adaptability, teamwork, communication and creativity.
