Norwich University is the first private military college in the country, his vision resulted in the creation of the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC). As the birthplace of ROTC, Norwich houses all four branches of the U.S. Department of Defense military services: Army, Navy, Marines and Air Force. Cadets seeking commissions in United States Coast Guard, an agency in the Department of Homeland Security, can pursue a commission through a special program called Direct Commission Selected School (DCSS) or by attending Officer Candidate School after graduation. Norwich University fosters open minds, leadership ideas, and communication skills that students take with them to a great first job, a military commission, a top graduate school, or a business career.
