I’m First: College Fly-In Visits

I’m First is an online community founded by Center for Student Opportunity to provide first-generation college students with support, advice and encouragement on the road to and through college. Share your personal story to inspire the next generation of students who will be first. Students and their supporters can sign up to access the I’m First dashboard where you can research colleges, ask questions and get answers, and follow the first-generation college student blog. Brandeis University

Students Exploring & Embracing Diversity (SEED),

SEED is an opportunity for potential students to connect with current students, the Brandeis Intercultural Center and ethnic identity groups on campus. All meals are provided, and full and partial travel scholarships are available to cover students’ transportation costs to and from Brandeis. Space is limited, students interested in will be notified on a rolling basis about whether or not a space and scholarship is available to them. Read more

Bucknell University

Journey to Bucknell is an overnight diversity program for high school seniors considering Bucknell. The program provides prospective students with an opportunity to explore our beautiful campus, interact with faculty and staff, and engage with current Bucknell students. Our hope is that the visit will help seniors understand the value of attending Bucknell and persuade them to apply. Free bus transportation will be provided from Philadelphia and New York City. The overnight program is competitive, and not all students who apply will be admitted as space is limited. Counselors must submit a transcript for the application to be considered. Ideally, we are seeking seniors pursuing an academically rigorous curriculum with strong test scores and minimum unweighted grade point average of 3.3 or higher. Selected students who must fly in to participate must purchase their own plane tickets, and they will be reimbursed after attending the program. Read more

Apply By August 31; September 28 Colby values diversity of all kinds and seeks to enroll students who also value diversity. Our FREE overnight campus visit program, Experience Colby, makes it possible for interested students to come for a visit regardless of financial circumstances. During Experience Colby students get to stay overnight in our residence halls, attend classes and meet professors, tour campus, meet current students, and try our delicious food. Experience Colby dates for 2014 are Sept. 28-30 and Oct. 26-28, and all students must complete the application in order to be considered. Read more

The Multicultural Open House, held in August and November, provides an exciting opportunity for prospective students to experience life at Colorado College firsthand. Attendees will have the opportunity to take a campus tour, visit a class, stay overnight on campus with a CC student host and participate in an admission interview and financial aid workshop. Students who are unable to attend this event are encouraged to apply for a travel grant to visit campus. Read more

Underrepresented students interested in engineering are invited to apply to Columbia Engineering Experience (CE2), a three-day overnight program on campus. Students admitted to the program will learn about The Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science and the various resources Columbia and New York City have to offer. Columbia also has a three-day program in April for admitted students; students who qualify for travel assistance will receive funding for travel to and from our campus. Read more

The Native American Fly-In Program is an opportunity for some of the most promising and talented students in the country, who have a particular interest in the Native community and/or Native American Studies, to experience Dartmouth. The Native American Fly-In Program provides opportunities for students to visit Dartmouth’s campus and learn more about the college, as well as the admissions and financial aid process. Students have the opportunity to go to classes, meet current students, go to workshops and find out more about the Dartmouth community. Read more

Discover Diversity at Dickinson is a visit designed for promising high-school seniors from diverse backgrounds and/or first generation students. This distinctive opportunity will allow you to experience Dickinson’s vibrant campus community during an overnight as well as during our traditional open house. This combined opportunity will allow students to see the college community as it is and celebrate its true diversity. Participants will spend the first day sitting in on classes and getting a feel for life on campus in the evening. The next day the students will join other visiting families during our fall open house prior to our first application deadline. The program will introduce students to important information about our admissions and financial-aid processes. Read more

Before students apply to Grinnell, the college offers a fall fly-in opportunity through the Grinnell Diversity Preview Program. Through GDPP, selected students of color and/or first-generation college students are provided a fully-funded opportunity to experience life as “Grinnellians.” Grinnell also invites select students of color and first-generation college students to fly-in, free of charge, to our April Admitted Student Programs. Hopkins Overnight Multicultural Experience (HOME),

HOME is a fly-in, three-day, two-night program for underrepresented minority students. Prospective students experience multicultural life at Hopkins and are hosted overnight by Multicultural Student Volunteers. This program coincides with the Fall Open House program. HOME requires an application; information is available via high school counselors and an invitation from the university. Read more

Prospective students from different ethnic backgrounds and from all parts of the nation are selected to experience a weekend on campus. Diversity Achiever’s Program (Fall) and Diversity Life Weekend (Spring) allows the student to be fully emerged in a campus setting and learn about the multitude of resources that Lehigh has to offer while taking advantage of an overnight experience on campus. The Multicultural Visit Program (MVP) is a two-day visit to campus for high school seniors from underrepresented backgrounds. MVP is designed for underrepresented students to meet other prospective applicants and current Oxy students and professors while gaining an understanding of Oxy’s campus and its relationship to Los Angeles. Students stay overnight in a residence hall, participate in classes, interact with current students and professors, attend information sessions on admission and financial aid and interview with an admission office.
