I am excited to help you do your best in mathematics and look forward to being a part of your journey to become a life-long learner!

Be RESPECTFUL, Be RESPONSIBLE, Be SAFE!!!

Suggestions for Success:

  1. Attendance – It is important to be fully present each day for class. This includes being in your seat on time, having materials, being ready to listen, and asking questions.
  1. Organization / Note Taking – Organize your notes in such a way that you can retrieve important information and assignments.
  1. Assignments – Turn in completed assignments on time. You can expect an assignment daily to be returned the next day unless otherwise noted.  Mathematics is very sequential, thus practicing new skills each day is critical to.
  1. Preparation – Prepare for quizzes and tests by reviewing previous material and asking questions as needed.
  1. Confidence – Have confidence in yourself as a mathematician! Each day brings new opportunities to build upon skills you have already mastered. You will be amazed at what you can learn when you believe in yourself!

Procedures:
There are procedures to everything we do in class, from how you enter the classroom, conduct yourself in the classroom, and leave the classroom.  These procedures will be learned during the course of the semester and must be followed to insure an efficient classroom environment.

Each and every day you need to bring to class your completed assignment (when applicable), a pencil, an eraser, a 3-Ring Binder with lined paper, and a graphing calculator.

You can expect a daily assignment to be returned the next day. Plan a block of time each day in which to complete your homework. Assignments must be completed with appropriate work shown in your problem solving process.

If you need to leave the class during instruction for any reason, please ask me and have your Student Planner ready for me to sign before you leave the room.  Please be respectful and only leave if absolutely necessary.  I will follow the school-wide policy, and there will be no breaks allowed in the first and last 10 minutes of class.

When you are absent from class, it is your responsibility to determine what you missed. Talk to me if you have questions regarding make-up work including any tests/quizzes.

If you need extra help, ask for it!  I will be available to assist you before and after school.

Textbooks and Calculators:
You will be assigned a textbook, Algebra 2, and a TI-83 graphing calculator.  The textbook is to be kept at home to complete assignments and review material, but your calculator should be brought to class everyday.  Throughout the year, you will learn how to perform many operations on your calculator and how to use it effectively.  You are responsible for your book and calculator and will be held accountable if it breaks or needs replacing.

Grades:
Grades are based on both formative and summative assessments. Formative assessments include quizzes (announced or unannounced), daily assignments, and end of class assignments.  Summative assessments include all unit and cumulative tests.  The math department’s grading scale is as follows:

90% – 100%              A
85% – 89%                B+
80% – 84%                B
75% – 79%                C+
70% – 74%                C
65% – 69%                D+
60% – 64%                D
59% & Below           F
