  1. Seniors must attend a mandatory meeting in the LNE Media Center to complete Scholarship and College information. This meeting is required for graduation.  Choose one meeting time Period 6, 7, or After School on Wednesday OR Thursday this week.  You will report directly to the Media Center for attendance.
  1. The April 28th Accuplacer test for Southeast Community has been cancelled. The test can be taken for free at SCC.  Stop in the Counseling Center for more information.
  1. Youth Leadership Lincoln (2016-2017) applications are available in the LNE Counseling Center. Interested 9th graders who want to develop leadership skills, who are “other-oriented,” and want to develop their knowledge and skills are encouraged to apply. ——->   Application Deadline:  May 13, 2016

Scholarships posted on ScholarshipQuest or received in the LNE Counseling Center:

NAACP Lincoln Branch Community Service Scholarship

3 scholarships available to LPS graduating seniors (regardless of race, gender, ethnic origin or sexual orientation) who will attend a post-secondary accredited institution in the fall of 2016.  Dollar amounts vary, with a maximum of $1,000 per scholarship.  Applicants must demonstrate a record of service to their local community as documented by letters of recommendation.  Applications are available in the LNE Counseling Center.

Joe Meehan – Class of 1943 Scholarship

Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP) Scholarships

Students who are planning to attend a college, community college, or technical school in Nebraska with the goal of achieving an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field are eligible to apply.  Application forms are available at www.aitpomaha.org.

Horatio Alger Career & Technical Scholarship

This program provides financial assistance to students who have financial need and have exhibited integrity and perseverance in overcoming personal adversity.  Seniors who will graduate in May 2016, with a commitment to pursue and complete a career or technical certificate/degree, are eligible to apply.

Ten scholarships with a maximum award of $2,500 will be awarded in Nebraska

Education & Training Voucher Program – ETV

This program provides financial assistance for tuition, fees and books, as well as one-on-one support, for current and former state wards to attend college.  You can receive up to $3,000.00 per year.  You must complete an application and return it to us.  You can get an application at: Website: www.central-plains.org, Your local HHS Office, or By calling us at 308-872-6596.

Student Opportunities:

Southeast Community College Automotive Summer Camp

Students interested in becoming an Automotive Technician can explore the Southeast Community College’s Automotive Technology program by enrolling in the 2016 Automotive Summer Camp.  The camp runs June 10th & 11th on SCC’s Milford Campus.  The camp is limited to 60 participants, on a first come basis, 16 years old or more.  Registration information is available in the LNE Counseling Center.  The cost is $29 and includes tools, meals, housing, and transportation to a special activity.

Bright Lights Classroom Assistant

Bright Lights needs classroom assistants for Summer 2016.  Students who have completed 9th-12th grade can apply to volunteer for half-day classes, day camps, and the international program with Japanese students.  This is a great opportunity for Class of 2017 seniors to complete GOPO Hours.  Apply on line at BrightLights.org beginning March 15, 2016.

Summer Healthcare Camps

Ever wanted to know how an x-ray or an ultrasound works?  Learn about the injury rehabilitation process?  See what a nurse does on a daily basis?  Join us this summer for the Nebraska Methodist College Healthcare Career Camp.  You’ll get a firsthand look at the healthcare field through activities, games and simulations put on by our very own faculty.  Two different camps available ($274 or $400).  Contact Jillian Sisson at jillian.sisson@methodistcollege.edu or by dialing 402-354-7100.

Health Career Camp – Bryan College of Health Sciences, Lincoln, NE

When:  July 11-15 OR July 25-29, Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

Where:  Bryan College of Health Sciences, 5035 Everett St., Lincoln, Nebraska

Cost:  $350 payable with application.  This includes lunches, scrub uniforms, supplies, transportation to field trips and bowling and pizza social activity.

 US Air Force Academy Summer Programs

Summer Seminar: Summer Seminar offers a unique opportunity to experience the Air Force Academy first-hand. It is specially designed for high school juniors heading into their senior year to get a realistic perspective of cadet life. Students will live in the dormitories, eat at the Academy’s dining facility, explore the various academic/military programs and courses that the Academy has to offer, and participate in a variety of different physical fitness activities (to include a practice CFA). The application is open from 1 December 2015 to 15 January 2016, and it is free to apply. There are two sessions: 12-17 June 2016 and 19-24 June 2016. Student may apply here.

STEM Engineering and Construction Camp: This camp is designed to provide high school students with a world-class experience in STEM skills following a “Build the Design” model. This one week program is supervised and led by engineers and located at the U.S. Air Force Academy. The program runs from 7-13 July 2016. Learn more information or apply now.

Juniors – Turn in your applications for the ETS ACT Prep class to the LNE Counseling Center: The deadline is THIS FRIDAY!

 

The Learn to Dream Field Trip to Southeast Community College is open to all eligible Sophomores & Juniors.  Applications are available in the Counseling Center and are due April 14th!

 

Get a Jump Start on college planning!   The Lincoln Area College Fair will be held at Southeast Community College (Lincoln Campus) on Sunday, April 10, 1-3 PM.  Over 100 colleges will be represented.

The new deadline to submit applications for the two-day Law Enforcement Summer Youth Academy hosted by the LPD Resource Officers is April 8th.  It will be held at SCC on May 23rd & May 24th.  Pick up an application in the Main Office.

 

Lighthouse After School Program at 26th and N is hosting a College/Career Fair on Thursday, April 21st from 6-7:30 pm (FREE dinner served at 5:30 pm) – colleges, universities and military branches from all over Nebraska will be there with free stuff, cookies, candy and gift card giveaways! Bring your friends and family for more chances to win!

 

Be a Summer Intern at Lincoln City Libraries!  Apply now through April 15th if you are a high school or college student.  This is a great opportunity to learn more about libraries.  And we always learn from our Interns! 4 Internship positions are open.

Internship Dates:  May 2016-August 31, 2016 (or until 100 hours completed for a payment of $1,000)
Hours:  Part time, Monday – Sunday as assigned.  Hours will vary.  May include some evenings until 8:00 pm.   These are temporary, internship positions that may last through August 31st.
