How to pay for college

 

The Northeast High School Counseling Center will be hosting our annual Financial Aid night on December 8, at 6:30 PM in the auditorium. Counselors and a College Planning Specialist from EducationQuest will be sharing important information on how to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), scholarship search tools, and other key steps to successfully make the transition to college. For the 2015-16 school year, the Nebraskans of World War II Scholarship Fund will award up to three (3) $2,000 scholarships.  The Pearl Harbor Remembrance Award Fund will award up to four (4) $300 awards to students who apply for but do not receive a Nebraskans of World War II Scholarship.

Qualifications for the Scholarship and Award are the same and are listed on the WWII Scholarship application form.  Consideration for both the Scholarship and Award will be given to students who have a direct tie to World War II.  Your school is eligible to return no more than two (2) scholarship applications for consideration.  Applications must be sent electronically to the Foundation at lheaton@nshsf.org by January 30, 2016.  The Scholarship Committee will review the nominations and make their selections no later than March 15, 2016.  Winners will be notified by April 1, 2016. Attached are copies of the nomination form that explain the criteria and supporting material requirements as well as a required media release form.  These materials as well as copies of the brochure will follow in the U.S. mail

The University of Nebraska–Lincoln (UNL) Advanced Scholars Program provides 11th and 12th grade high school 18students the opportunity to complete UNL college credit at a reduced tuition rate. The program is currently accepting applications for the Spring 2016 Semester. The Application deadline is January 7, 2016 but students are encouraged to apply early.  Nebraska high school students may qualify for the Access College Early (ACE) Scholarship Program offered by Nebraska’s Coordinating Commission for Post-secondary Education.  Go to the Advanced Scholars website for further information.

hoby-logo10th graders ~ Do you want to be a leader? Consider applying for two summer leadership opportunities: HOBY (Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership Academy) of the Nebraska Leadership Seminar. Both provide unique leadership training that empowers students to become strong, compassionate youth leaders. During the seminar, your student will develop confidence and skills to make him/her an effective leader in the home, school and community. See Mrs. Peaslee in the Counseling Center if you would like to attend the informational meeting on Nov. 17th.

growAmerica’s Farmers Grow Ag Leaders, sponsored by the Monsanto Fund, encourages rural youth to remain in agriculture and provides $1,500 college scholarship to support their education. This year, more than $500,000 in scholarships was awarded to students across the country.

More scholarships will be available in 2016. Starting this November, students can apply online at FFA.org/scholarships. The National FFA Organization administers the program, but you do not have to be an FFA member to apply.

washScholarships for Incoming Students

Each year the Leadership Institute awards Leadership Scholarships to students based on:

  • A record of academic achievement
  • Evidence of leadership initiative at school and in the community
  • Demonstrated social and communication skills

Yearly scholarship values typically range from $500 to $2,000 and are renewable for up to four years for a total scholarship package ranging from $2,000 to $8,000. In order to renew scholarships, students must meet scholarship requirements indicated below.
