Dan Alberts started working at LHS in 2023. He has previously worked at Omaha Central, and he practiced law for most of his career! Dan loves baking bread and wearing Jordans!
Jana Becher started at Lincoln High in 2023. She previously taught middle school. Jana is the Softball coach for Lincoln High! She currently teaches Algebra and Pre-Algebra.
Lenny Gish has been teaching at Lincoln High since 1997. He graduated from UNL with both his B.S. and MAT. Mr. Gish currently teaches Diff AP Calculus, Precollege Math, and Geometry.
Alice Hillhouse – Math Department Chair. Alice has taught at Lincoln High since 1989. She received her B.A. in math from Union College and her MA from UNL in Curriculum and Instruction. She also holds an ELL K-12 endorsement. Alice currently teaches Pre-Calculus, and Algebra Block.
Mrs. Hillhouse is available most mornings and afternoons to help students by appointment.
Amy Hung started at Lincoln High in 2016. She obtained both her bachelor’s (Math with Secondary Endorsement) and master’s (Curriculum and Instruction) degrees from Doane University. She also holds an ELL K-12 Endorsement. Amy has taught Algebra, Advanced Algebra, and Statistics.
Dr. Pat Janike began teaching mathematics in 2001. In the past he has taught at Southeast High School and at Ruamrudee International School in Bangkok, Thailand. He began teaching at Lincoln High in 2006. Also, in the past five years he has taught classes at UNL for the Math in the Middle and Nebraska Algebra programs as a Noyce Master Teaching Fellow.
Pat graduated from Lincoln High and received a B.S. in Civil Engineering from UNL. He earned a M.A. in Secondary Teaching and is currently pursuing a EdD in Mathematics Education at UNL. In 2015, Pat earned his National Board certification. In 2008 he also received the State Farm Outstanding Educator Award and in 2018 he was awarded the Myrtle Clark Mathematics Award! In 2019 he earned his Doctorate!
Currently, Pat teaches Geometry and IB Mathematics – Higher Level. He is also the coach of the Lincoln High math team and he helps do Statistics for the Swim Team!
Corey Jones graduated from Nebraska Wesleyan University. Mr. Jones is teaching Advanced Algebra and Algebra Block. Mr. Jones coaches football for Lincoln East!
David Juiliano came to Lincoln High after teaching in high school for Denver Public Schools in Denver, Colorado.
He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Claremont McKenna College and his Master of Education degree from Harvard Graduate School of Education. Mr. Juliano is the first recipient of the Travis Berry Outstanding Lincoln High Educator Award!
Mr. Juiliano teaches AP Calculus and Geometry Block.
Katie Kuhn has been at Lincoln High since 2017. Katie holds her Bachelor’s degree from UNL and is currently working towards a Master’s Degree in Math Education. She teaches Precalculus and Algebra Block.
Trevor Leiting has taught math at LHS since 2017. He has his Bachelor’s degree from Nebraska Wesleyan and his Master’s Degree from UNL. He has taught Advanced Algebra, Geometry, and Algebra.
Joe Matt student taught at Lincoln High in the spring of 2023 and now is a teacher at Lincoln High. Joe is famous for his baking abilities and he also likes to play basketball!
Doug Matulka has a Masters Degree from UNL and has received the Don Miller Distinguished Mathematics Teacher award from the Lincoln Rotary Club. Mr. Matulka is teaching Algebra, Geometry Block, and Advanced Algebra Support. He enjoys playing ultimate frisbee competitively and has done so in 15 different states.
Mr. Matulka is available to help students after school on Mondays and Wednesdays and Thursdays in the Homework Zone which is in the Lincoln High Cafeteria.
Salema Merza started at LHS this year. She is orginally from Iraq where she earned her Bachelors Degree in Mathematics and taught both high school and elementary school. She speaks Arabic, Bahdini, Sorani, Kurmanj and Kurdish!
Jeff Meyer taught at Plattsmouth High before teaching at Lincoln High in 2014. He received his bachelor’s degree in Psychology and his masters in teaching mathematics from UNL. Jeff currently teaches Diff Geometry and Advanced Algebra Support. He also sponsors chess club.
David Monnens moved from South Dakota in 2023 and joined the Lincoln High Math department. When he was in South Dakota he functioned as Principal! David has also worked with the Peace Corp in Nicaragua and he speaks fluent Spanish!
Matt Richardson started teaching at Lincoln High in 2017. His undergraduate work was done at Nebraska Wesleyan, he earned his Masters degree at Concordia University, and his Education Specialist degree from Wayne State.
Joel White currently teaches Algebra, Advanced Algebra and Accelerated Math. Joel graduated from UNL where he played Trombone in the marching band. In addition to teaching math Joel also works with the speech team!
Lucinda Zmarzley earned her BA in Math (1995) and her MA in Math (1998) from UNL. She then spent her time: raising two children; volunteering; teaching as a math instructor at UNL; tutoring; learning how to grow plants and bake and cook and sew. She also tried making a business of quilting using recycled materials. In 2017 she earned her MA and became certified to teach High School Math in Nebraska. She started teaching at Lincoln Southeast and is now pleased to call Lincoln High her home. Lucinda enjoys math, being outdoors, weeding, biking and jogging. Fun facts: Her jobs in high school and college included waiting tables at Lincoln’s first Chinese restaurant and baking at Open Harvest. Lucinda sponsors the gardening club at Lincoln High!
